The point is that this employee in the private sector would be making a livable wage to begin with, and she would be able to receive a financial reward for high performance. Teachers need to be paid a salary competitive with the private sector, and if the state chooses, they could award teachers “bonuses” based on their effectiveness in the classroom or their additional involvement within the life of the school.
All this talk about new high schools and redistricting has gotten me thinking: Are we even ready to do this? Because I have a feeling that we are not. Cross Keys High School students were redistricted to Chamblee Charter High... Continue Reading →
The options for the DeKalb County Secondary Schools Planning and Feasibility Study are out for public review and comment. The big question in the minds of many thoughtful people is “Which option is best for DeKalb?” I wish I could... Continue Reading →
Apparently an earlier statement from a consultant with Educational Planners has been disqualified as "completely inaccurate and inappropriate."
I have created a survey for our community to take (a Spanish version will be released shortly), and I encourage you to disseminate this information to your different networks.
I have also been told that "people in Ashford Park don't spend $700,000 on a house for their kids to go to Cross Keys." Please see below for information regarding redistricting meetings. Also, I am working on a few suggestions that may be helpful as parents and community stakeholders consider the many different options (Hint: It might include high schools with capacity of 3000 students -- not 1600 students.)
I mostly understood the request for redistricting to be a request for schools close-by (i.e. Chamblee MS, Chamblee HS, Ashford Park ES) to receive students, since they are within the same cities and communities of our Cross Keys cluster students. I think this is why many parents are voicing frustrations and concerns about how the district decided to redistribute the students.
